Brad Mayhew’s professional career has been devoted to providing interpreting environmental regulations through training presentation, manual development, providing consulting services to the regulated community, public speaking at the national level, and publications.

He has designed and presented seminars on new regulations attended by industry leaders in the public and private sector throughout the United States. As a member of the Environmental Awareness Council of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Steering Committee he planned and led some of the topical meetings attended by state environmental leaders from all sectors.

He has also successfully created and lead forums where business and governmental leaders gathered to create productive responses to problems and opportunities outside the environmental arena. His efforts inspired the response of downtown Hutchinson, Kansas businessmen to redevelopment issues and were a featured part of that city’s successful All-American City application. He also participated in rail planning projects involving public forums and consensus building.

NARRATIVE

6/1985 to Present
President and CEO, Mayhew Environmental Training Present Associates, Inc. (Incorporated January, 1987) Lawrence, Kansas

Under Mr. Mayhew’s leadership, META has become one of the top five environmental training organizations in the country in each of the following categories: dollar volume; national and state accreditations; and geographic service area. META is also recognized as a leading quality-oriented environmental consultant and laboratory on a regional level. META has also successfully ventured into the area of “Applied Technology,” the application of new and new combinations of existing and new technologies to environmental, process and ecological challenges.

META grew from a regional training organization in its first year of incorporation grossing about $120,000 to a multifaceted national environmental trainer, consultant, and laboratory grossing over $1.3 million in its third year of operation. This growth was accomplished with no capital infusion.

META has trained in 35 states, 3 territories, Japan, Germany, Italy, the Azores, Canada, Mexico, Greenland, and the United Kingdom. It has offered training in Polish, Spanish, Japanese, German, Italian, Korean, and Czech.

As President and Founder of META, Mr. Mayhew maintains technical oversight of all projects.

Assisted in the design of a sewage lagoon.
Services for the Disabled Population:
Prepared strategy recommendations for a prototype residential facility for severely handicapped adults involving analysis of entitlement programs in Kansas and Missouri, including evaluations of the range of services to offer, sources of funding, required staffing and future development alternatives and prepared the engineering analysis of a proposed site for the facility. Resulted in a nationally recognized prototype residential facility for persons with disabilities successful establishment in Kansas.

Transportation:
- Wrote portions of rail and airport planning reports including the State of Kansas position before the ICC on the Sante Fe - Southern Pacific rail merger and financial projections for a tourist railroad.
- Provided planning services in initial phases of the (eventually successful) development of a tourist railroad in Dodge City, Kansas.

Economic Development/Historic Preservation:
Served as the catalyst for the first comprehensive approach to downtown development to be adopted in twenty-five years of effort in Hutchinson:

-Conceived of, organized, and chaired the Hutchinson Building Preservation Conference in June, 1984 attended by over 100 community leaders,
-Sponsored and chaired a local presentation of “Revitalizing Downtown” National Video Conference, September, 1984,
-Assisted the downtown merchants association in adapting the “Main Street” development management approach for Hutchinson,
-Headed successful efforts from October, 1984 to December, 1984, to secure financial assistance from city and county commissions.

In 1987, the City of Hutchinson’s presentation in support of its application for All American city status featured the efforts of three of its citizens to improve the community. Mr. Mayhew’s activities on behalf of historic and downtown preservation were one of the three. The application resulted in Hutchinson’s designation as an All American City in 1988.
